Stunning silver vesta case with bark finish Asprey & Co Ltd Chester 1908
A truly splendid Vesta case, made from sterling silver by the esteemed Aspreys of London. It has a lovely curved shape and with a textured bark finish, makes this a most unusual Vesta Case.
Beautifully made, with bright gilding to the interior, the craftsmanship of the silversmith is most apparent. Hinged on one side the Vesta opens and closes perfectly with a clear snap sound. The hallmarks are on the inside lip for the Chester Assay office with date mark for 1908 and Lion Passant indicating the finest sterling silver, the maker's mark is for the silversmith Asprey and Co Ltd. along with the words Asprey London. There are also part hallmarks to the outside of the lid.
This is a superior Vesta Case. It is superbly made and aesthetically pleasing on the eye. It is a good heavy gauge silver and feels lovely when held in the hand.
In great antique collector's condition. To the back, near the base, is a slight indentation and tarnishing in places (please see images for details).
